Acute appendicitis in a 53-year-old woman

Acute appendicitis in a 53-year-old woman. CT scan shows an enhancing tubular structure with wall thickening (arrows), with adjacent fat stranding in the right mid-abdomen. Although the lesion is suggestive of an inflamed appendix, the relationship between the cecum and the appendix is unclear at axial CT alone.
